Holloway women’s prison in North London closed in July 2016 and agents Bilfinger GVA have been appointed to advise the government on the sale of the land.
The Reclaim Justice Network is supporting Reclaim Holloway, a coalition fighting for Holloway’s 9 acre site to be used for collective good.
Despite promises from government that improving prison conditions was a priority, the women of Holloway were moved to other prisons outside of the city making resettlement and family contact difficult. We do not want to see profits from prison land sales fed back into the prison system. Instead, these assets should be protected for our communities
There are many options that could be explored, including handing the land over to local authority control for council housing; offering supported housing and domestic violence refuges; community spaces.
